The 2002-2003Division II All-Academic Team consists of 96 student-athletes from 30 universities and colleges. Thirty-two members were named to the first team, 34 to the second team and 30 were named as honorable mention. University of Nebraska-Kearney placed seven members on the first and second teams, West Liberty State College placed six members, and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown placed five members.
Seven student athletes were named to the team for the fourth time. They include Aaron Monseau and Sam Stewart from West Liberty State College, Chris Murphy and Joel Schrimph from Minnesota State University-Mankato, Tyler Bryant from South Dakota State University, Erich Singer from Fort Hays State University and Frank Kuchera from the University of Nebraska-Kearny. Sixteen students athletes were named to the team for the third time. They include Jeff and Dave La Motte from West Liberty State College, Ben Kuntz and Bruno Iorfido from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Eric Brooks and Chris Schlagel from Ashland University, Jon Dierk from Minnesota State University-Mankato, Tom Goss from Central Missouri State University, Jon Smith from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, Lincoln Thomas from the Colorado School of Mines, Jared Waller from San Francisco State University, Daniel Miller from Fort Hays State University, Joel Fugelberg from the University of Minnesota-Morris, Matt Neumiller from St. Cloud State University, Corey Crandell from Truman State University and Dan Vech from the Univesity of Nebraska-Omaha.
One member of the All-Academic Wrestling Team has a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Aaron Monseau, a senior from West Liberty State College Majoring in Biology and Chemistry has received all A's in nine semesters of course work. He is only the third individual selected to the NCAA II All-Academic Wrestling Team that has carried a 4.0 GPA for his entire career. The first was Kris Pressler from the University of North Dakota. He earned his degree in Mathematics in 1991. The second was Robert Sistek from the University of Northern Colorado. Her earned his degree in Accounting in 1996. Aaron Monseau will graduate this spring and will be attending medical school at West Virginia University this fall.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated for the Division II All-Academic Team, he needed to have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year at his school, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation (academic advisor and coach) submitted on his behalf.

West Liberty State College recorded the highest team grade
point average (GPA) in the tenth annual Division II All-Academic
Wrestling Team selection and won the Academic National Championship.
West Liberty State College's GPA is the second highest ever recorded.
It is second only to the 3.417 that Fort Hays State University
recorded in 2001. West Liberty State College is one of six schools
to win this prestigious competition. Other winners have been
the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Fort Hays State University,
Colorado School of Mines, Minnesota State University-Mankato and
Truman State University. The team GPA is calculated by averaging
the cumulative grade point averages of ten wrestlers from each
team of which eight of those wrestlers must have competed in their
team's NCAA II National Qualifying tournament.
