Steve Maurey (Altoona, PA.) catches Brian evans (Norman, Okla.) in one of his patened Granby Rolls for a reversal and near fall points during the recent "Pennsylvania Vs. USA" Wrestling Classic which was held in Pittsburgh, PA. on April 6. Maurey, a 1974 Pennsylvania State Champion and the 1974 AAU National Junior Olympic runner-up went on to post a rather easy 10-3 win over Evans. a highly regarded three-time Oklahoma State Scholastic Champion. The USA team scored 30 and Pennsylvania 13. Evans, 31-0-1 this season, wrestled for the US Team and was the only member who didn't have a perfect unbeaten, untied season. Maurey, 22-2, is part of the Pennsylvania team, made up of wrestlers whose overall records total 278-18-4. In 1951 Don Maurey and Tom Evans, fathers of the pair, met in the semi-finals of the NCAA tournament. The match ended with a 5-5 tie and Evans was awarded the win on a referee's decision.
