Terry Brands had been waiting for his Olympic moment since he failed to qualify for the 1996 Olympics. He fell short of his quest for gold, but did earn a place on the podium as the bronze medalist.

    Silver lining?
American freestyle wrestler Sammie Henson was defeated by Azerbaijan's Namik Abdulayev tonight and took home the silver medal in the 54kg/119lbs. division, while Brandon Slay fell to Germany's Alexander Leipold to earn the silver medal in the 76kg/167.5 lbs. division. (MSNBC)

Slay and Henson roll on
Brandon Slay (76kg/167.5 lbs.) and Sammie Henson (54kg/119 lbs.) advanced in freestyle wrestling and will go for gold medals Saturday. Other winners included Terry Brands (58kg/127.75 lbs.), Charles Burton (85kg/187.25 lbs.), Lincoln McIlravy (69kg/152 lbs.) and Kerry McCoy (130kg/286 lbs.) as the U.S. finished the day 8-0..

WRESTLING: AMERICAN SLAYS ANOTHER RIVAL
The United States' surprise packet Brandon Slay, edged past Kazakhstan's Gennadiy Laliyev on Friday to seal a place in the semi-finals of the 76 kg freestyle event at the Olympics Games. Slay caused a major upset on Thursday when he beat reigning Olympic champion Bouvaissa Saitiev of Russia in the elimination pool. It happens again
After defeating 1997 world champion Mohammad Talaei, American freestyle wrestler Cary Kolat had his victory protested and then lost the rematch. This was the third time that a Kolat victory in a world-level championship was reversed.

WRESTLING: GRAND SUPERIORITY CLINCHES PRELIMINARY
Georgian Eldar Kurtanidze defeated Ricardas Pauliukonis of Lithuania with a Grand Superiority score of 11-1 in their Olympic 97 kilogram freestyle wrestling preliminary on Thursday morning.
