BRANDON SLAY, Olympic Training Center, Colorado
Springs, CO. Brandon is
currently one of the hottest motivational speakers on the national
circuit
today. His story of rising from humble beginnings to becoming
an Olympic
Champion is truly remarkable. Wrestling for the University of
Pennsylvania, he was a 3 time All-American and two-time NCAA finalist.
In
freestyle, he was a 3-time Junior National All-American, and went
on to win
the USA Freestyle Nationals and the Olympic Trials. In Sydney,
Australia,
he shocked the world by bringing home an Olympic Gold Medal in
2000.
STEVE MARTIN, Great Bridge High School, VA.
Martin was an All-American at
the University of Iowa for Dan Gable, before taking over the Great
Bridge
program. Over the last 11 years, his teams have won 10 State Championships
and put up a phenomenal record of (262-12-1). His 2002 squad finished
#2
in the nation! Over the past decade, his teams have been ranked
in the top
20 by USA Today, AWN and Wrestling USA Magazine every single year.
Throughout his career, on many occasions he's been named Regional,
State or
National Coach of the year. He is the living heir to the patented
Gramby
School of Training.
ERIC LARKIN, Arizona State University. Larkin
capped off a brilliant
college career with a dream season that included a (34-0) record,
a NCAA
Championship and a Most Outstanding Wrestler in the NCAAs Award.
Larkin
also was a 4-time PAC-10 Champion and a 4-NCAA All- American for
the Sun
Devils. Three times he was named Outstanding Wrestler of the PAC-10
and in
2003 he was bestowed with the honor of the Dan Hodge Award-(Heisman
Trophy
for wrestling). As a sophomore in college, he placed 3rd in the
2000
Olympic Trials, higher than any collegian in America, even higher
than Cael
Sanderson!
JOHNNY COBB, Tascosa High School, Amarillo,
TX. Coach Cobb's teams place
at the top of Texas every year. In fact, his teams have placed
in the top
4 in the State Tournaments 12 times in 15 years, with 5 State
Titles under
his belt. Cobb is a master at bringing out talent in his wrestlers,
which
has led him to being named Texas Coach of the Year. Over the years
he has
produced 7 High Schools All-Americans, 2 Dream Team Selections
and one
Olympic Gold Medallist. Johnny Cobb has also been a pioneer for
women's
wrestling and recently won the 2003 Texas Woman State Title. He
is an
outstanding clinician and a member of the Texas Wrestling Hall
of Fame.
JOHN MATHEWS, Former Central Michigan University
wrestler and the coach,
was named nationally "Coach of the Year" by the USA
Wrestling, the National
Government Body for Wrestling. After college, Mathews went on
to win the
US Olympic Trials and make the Olympic team in Greco Roman in
1976 and 1980
at 163 pounds. In 2003, he was a double champion at the Veterans
National
Championships, winning both Freestyle and Greco Titles. Currently
he
coaches at Desert Vista High School, and was instrumental in helping
the
new school place 2nd in State in 2002. He is also the prolific
Arizona
State Greco Team Coach.
DOUG CHRISTOFIS, Desert Vista High School,
AZ. Doug is the Strength
Trainer at the Desert Vista and runs one of the premiere weight-lifting
and
the conditioning programs in the Southwest. He is nationally certified
and
considered an expert in the field of the exercise science. He
was
number-one in his class for physical fitness at the United States
Secret
Service Academy and received the distinguished award for scoring
500 out of
500 in the Federal Law Enforcement Battery Test. He is trained
in the
martial arts of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jui Jitsu.
His Intense
training in the martial arts, wrestling, and his extreme physical
fitness
were major factors in his selection to protect high level officials
in the
United States Government.
