URSINUS' EDDIE MURRAY NAMED WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
Bear Senior Ranked Seventh Nationally With 23-0 Record

LANCASTER, Pa. - February 14, 2006 - Ursinus senior 133-pounder Eddie Murray (Lancaster, PA / Lampeter-Strasburg) has been selected as the 2006 Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Year in balloting by the eight head coaches in the Conference.

Murray closed out the regular season with at perfect 23-0 overall record and an unblemished 7-0 conference record. He is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings. Murray helped guide Ursinus to a 15-1-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 Conference dual record, establishing the longest Conference winning streak with 22 straight CC wins since 2002-03 season. He was named the Centennial Outstanding Wrestler last season and earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2004.

Murray will look to capture a fourth straight Centennial title Saturday at the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships to be held at Goldfarb Gymnasium on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. Action begins at 10 a.m.

Mike Pattanite, Gettysburg (Jr, 285, Tabernacle, NJ / Holy Cross) - Pattanite went 1-0 on the week, beating James Layman of NYU, 9-2. He increased his season win total to 19.

Jimmy Van Daniker, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 133, Baltimore / Perry Hall) - Van Daniker picked up a pair of decisive victories over the weekend, with a major decision and a technical fall to help Hopkins jump out to big leads against Stevens and King's Point.

Dale Mills, Muhlenberg (Sr, 157, Wernersville, PA / Wilson-West Lawn) - Mills went 3-0 with a pin and a major decision in the final three dual meets of his career. He ended up fifth in dual-meet wins on the Mules' all-time list with a career record of 49-7.

Ryan Bennick, Stevens (So, 157, Jim Thorpe, PA / Jim Thorpe) - Bennick earned his fifth conference win of the season with a win by pin, his seventh of the season.

Mike Troutman, Ursinus (Sr, 184, Exeter, PA / Exeter) - Troutman earned his 30th win this weekend, pinning two conference opponents to help the Bears tie the longest winning streak in CC history and capture their fourth consecutive dual-meet title.

John Christopher, Washington & Lee (Fr, 285, Fort Lauderdale, FL / Cardinal Gibbons) - Christopher went 2-0 at the Muhlenberg Triangular. He notched a 4-1 win over Muhlenberg's Chris Swenson and posted a 10-8 decision over Matt Williams of Ursinus. Christopher is now a team-best 20-7 on the season.

Josh Kaplan, Gettysburg (Sr, 165, Canton, CT / Canton) - Kaplan went 1-0 on the week, beating Courtney Nightengale of McDaniel by a major decision, 15-4.

David Kraus, Johns Hopkins (Sr, 174, Potomac, MD / Churchill) - After the Generals got a pin from sophomore Anthony Boniello in the 165-pound bout to regain the lead at 12-10, Kraus answered for the Blue Jays with the go-ahead decision. Kraus recorded a pair of takedowns, reserved three minutes of riding time and escaped Jesup Sataloff's only takedown to claim a 7-2 win, putting Hopkins ahead for good.

Danny Song, Kings Point (Sr, 141, Holbrook, NY / Hauppauge) - Song placed second at 141 at the All-Academy Championship this past weekend. He defeated second-seeded Jake Kriegbaum of Air Force, then dropped a 12-2 major decision to top-seeded and ninth-ranked in Division I Sean Markey of Citadel.

Andrew Winfield, McDaniel (Fr, 174, New Windsor, MD / South Carroll) - Winfield continued his dominance in the 174 class by pinning yet another conference opponent and leading McDaniel to a hard fought win over Gettysburg.

Anthony Boniello, Washington & Lee (So, 165, Katonah, NY / Somers) - Boniello pinned Johns Hopkins' Mike Vecchiolo in 1:59 at 165 pounds in a 22-12 loss to the Blue Jays. Boniello is now 9-11 on the season.

Top Individual Performances

Caleb Seufert, Gettysburg (Sr, 165, Gaithersburg, MD / Northwest) - Seufert went 2-0 on the week to lead the Bullets. Both of his wins were by major decisions. In the match against Steve Gregory of Franklin & Marshall, Seufert beat him 8-0. Seufert's other win was 13-5 versus Mitch Davey of James Madison. Seufert is currently tied for the team-lead with three major decisions this season.

Vincent Domestico, Johns Hopkins (Fr, 285, Bellingham, MA / Holliston) - Domestico pinned Keith English of McDaniel in the heavyweight bout to put the Blue Jays up 9-7 in their match with McDaniel last week. Hopkins was down 7-3 before Domestico's pin.

Nate Van De Venter, Kings Point (Sr, 174, Tannersville, PA / Pocono Mountain) - Van De Venter went 4-0 on the week and tallied two pins.

Rob Kein, Muhlenberg (Fr, 141, East Rutherford, NJ / H.P. Becton) - Kein went 2-1 with a major decision in three bouts. In his only loss, he led a nationally ranked Kings Point wrestler after two periods.

Charles Favia, Stevens (Fr, 149, Brick, NJ / Christian Brothers) - Favia finished 3-0 last week against conference competitors, improving his league record to 5-0. He earned one win by major decision and one by tech. fall.

Mike Troutman, Ursinus (Sr, 184, Exeter, PA / Exeter) - Troutman earned his 125th career win, pinning Ben Sanders of the Merchant Marines in 1:19 at the 184 weight class. He also pinned Pasquale Perrone of Stevens in 2:12 in his second match of the day for his team-leading 18th win by fall.

Max Courtney, Washington & Lee (Jr, 184, Jeffersonville, PA / LaSalle College) - Courtney, the top seed, went 2-0 to win the 184-pound weight class at the Apprentice School Invitational. He knocked off UNC-Pembroke's Rex Ely 7-2 before defeating teammate, sophomore Kirk Adamson, 5-0, in the championship match. Courtney is 13-7 on the season.

Top Individual Performances

Mike Pattanite, Gettysburg (Sr, 285, Tabernacle, NJ/Holy Cross) - Pattanite went 3-0, pinning two opponents, in the 285 weight class this week. He pinned John Christopher of W&L in 6:50 and L.R. Neubauer of Waynesburg in :44 while also winning a close decision over Keith Altiery of Wilkes, 7-6. Pattanite leads the Bullets with six falls this season.

Eric Fishel, Johns Hopkins (So, 197, Owings Mills, MD / Owings Mills) - Fishel racked up four pins in Saturday's North-South Duals. After recording a pin in the 184-pound class against MIT, Fishel stepped up to 197 without missing a beat, posting three more pins to finish out the day.

Billy Hall, Muhlenberg (Fr, 133, Chester, NJ / West Morris Mendham) - Hall finished second at 133 at the Williams Invitational, suffering a one-point loss in the final. He advanced to the championship with two pins, increasing his team-leading total to nine. Hall has placed third or higher in three tournaments this season.

Brandon MacWhinnie, Stevens (So, 165, Barton, NY / Tioga Central) - MacWhinnie was a perfect 7-0 at 165 pounds. He earned four wins by fall and one each by forfeit, decision and major decision. He now stands at 19-6 overall and 9-0 in duals. He leads the squad with seven wins by fall and six by major decision.

Brian Boland, Ursinus (Sr, 149, Turnersville, NJ / Camden Catholic) - Boland finished second at the Citrus Open tournament over break, defeating NCAA All-American and third-ranked Carl Amerine of Wilimington, 3-2. Boland also picked up three wins on Saturday at the North/South Duals. His only non-forfeit win was a 4-0 decision 4-0 win over Zeth Nolda of Plymouth State, improving his record to 12-3 on the season.

Jesup Sataloff, Washington & Lee (So, 174, Baltimore, MD / McDonogh) - Sataloff went 3-0 at the W&L Quadrangular on Saturday afternoon. He defeated Gettysburg's James Stevenson, 12-4 and Waynesburg's Tyler Allen, 7-2, before downing Bill Bleiler of Wilkes, 14-7.

Top Individual Performances

Matt Shank, Gettysburg (Fr, 141, Reedsville, PA / Indian Valley) - Shank added to his impressive rookie resume with another 3-0 day on Saturday. The freshman set a new Gettysburg freshman record for wins in a season (36) and moved into second place on the Bullets' all-time single-season wins' lists and pins' list (14). Jake Dell (1994-98) leads both categories with 40 wins and 17 pins.

Nate Van de Venter, Kings Point (Jr, 165, Tannersville, PA/ Pocono Mountain) - Van de Venter comes into the Centennial Conference championships with some much-needed momentum, following a 10-1 major decision over Hunter's Erik Giannini.

Steve Jennings, McDaniel (Jr, 184, Beltsville, MD / Pallotti) - Jennings recorded a pair of pins in Saturday's tri-meet sweep against Messiah and King's. Jennings' pin at 197 against Messiah gave McDaniel a 20-17 lead that was closed out by Reinecker. His pin over King's sealed that match.

Matt Loesch, Muhlenberg (So, 197, Carsonville, PA / Upper Dauphin) - Loesch won by major decision, technical fall and forfeit to finish his dual-meet season with a perfect 17-0 record, one win short of the school record for most wins in an undefeated dual season. The only wrestler to go 7-0 against CC competition, Loesch enters this weekend's CC Championships with a 17-bout winning streak.

Michael Detsis, Stevens (Fr, 141, Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) - Detsis finished the season with an impressive overall record of 29-3. He improved to 17-0 in dual matches and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference with two wins by decision over NYU and Ursinus this weekend.

Josh Sabol, Ursinus (Fr, 149, Delran, NJ / Delran) - Sabol posted three wins to help the Bears finish the dual-meet season undefeated. Sabol pinned Matthew Fay of Albright in 2:57 then recorded a win by decision and technical fall against NYU and Stevens, respectively.

David Shubick, Washington & Lee (Fr, 125, Bound Brook, NJ / Bound Brook) - Shubick went 2-0 at 125 pounds at the Baptist Bible Tri-Match on Saturday. He defeated Tim Sullivan of Baptist Bible, 14-4, and pinned Michael Tenenhaus of Centennial Conference-rival Muhlenberg in 56 seconds. Shubick improved to 14-13 on the season and 3-0 against Centennial Conference opponents

Around the Conference

CENTENNIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND: All eight Centennial teams will be at Muhlenberg College on Saturday, February 19, to battle it out for the 2005 Centennial Conference title. The winners of each weight class will earn a trip to the NCAA Championships at St. Olaf College (MN) on March 4-5. A ROOKIE'S RECORD-SETTING RESUME: Gettysburg's Matt Shank (Fr, Reedsville, PA / Indian Valley) had made the most of his first season in a Gettysburg uniform. The rookie has already amassed more wins than any freshman in program history with 36. He also ranks second on Gettysburg's all-time single-season wins' list and pins' list. He needs four more wins to tie Jake Dell's single-season win total (40) and three falls to tie his pin record (17).

SEEING 20/20: With a 2-1 day on Saturday, the Bullets' Mike Pattanite (So, Tabernacle, NJ / Holy Cross) joined Matt Shank (Fr, Reedsville, PA /I ndian Valley) on the 20-win list this season. It marks the first time in three seasons that two Bullets have amassed at least 20 victories. Luke Palumbo (28) and Steve Kareha (21) last accomplished the feat for Gettysburg during the 2001-02 campaign.

Top Individual Performances

Matt Shank, Gettysburg (Fr, 141, Reedsville, PA / Indian Valley) - Shank continues to be the catalyst for the Bullets in his rookie season. The freshman went 4-0 last week in his first dual action to improve to 20-4 overall with a team-leading six pins.

Tony Dambro, Johns Hopkins (Sr, 197, Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) - Dambro finished the weekend 3-1, as the Blue Jays participated in the North/South Duals at Ursinus. Dambro's three wins were all pins.

Danny Song, Kings Point (Jr, 149, Holbrook, NY / Hauppauge) - Song was the winner of the 149-pound weight class Saturday at the Long Island Open - his second tournament victory of the year (Doug Parker Invitational). He recorded one fall and one major decision in his 4-0 afternoon, and defeated Cody Harrington of Brockport State in the final by a 4-2 score, in sudden-victory overtime.

Eddie Labatch, McDaniel (Fr, 141, Easton, PA / Wilson) - Labatch returned to the mat at the North South Duals for the first time since the opening weekend of the season. He recorded four pins in the 141-pound weight class with three of them coming in the first period. The freshman improved his record to 6-2 on the year.

John Hesse, Muhlenberg (So, 184, Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) - Hesse went 4-1 with a major decision and his first two pins of the season, both in the first period. He is tied for the team lead in wins with a 12-4 record.

Mark Barber, Ursinus (So, 149, Mickleton, NJ / Kingsway) - Barber went 4-0 at the North/South Duals on Saturday. He won his first match by forfeit and went on to win three bouts by decision to help the Bears remain undefeated in dual-meet action.

Kirk Adamson, Washington & Lee (Fr, 197, Richmond, VA / St. Christopher's) - Adamson went 3-0 at the Gettysburg Quad. He began the day by pinning Gettysburg's Mike Pattanite in 4:06 in the heavyweight division. Adamson then won by forfeit at 197 pounds over Pensacola Christian before defeating Davidson's Jayson Powers, 7-3, at 197 pounds.

Hofstra's Skretkowicz CAA Wrestler of the Week Drexel's Haydt, ODU's Davenport Rookies of Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--Hofstra University 197 Chris Skretkowicz has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week, and Billy Haydt of Drexel University and Hunter Davenport of Old Dominion University were named the CAA Rookies of the Week, for all competition November 23-December 6.

Skretkowicz (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley Regional) upset the top ranked wrestler in the nation, Jon Trenge of Lehigh, 5-2, leading Hofstra to an upset of the number two ranked Mountain Hawks. Skretkowicz then went 5-0 to win his weight class at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Haydt, a freshman from Bath, PA (Northampton), subbed in at both 157 and 165 for Drexel, going 2-0 at the Northeast Duals. Haydt defeated Mike Allen of Ohio 7-3 at 157 and Wayne Hash-Barberis of American 4-3 at 165.

Davenport, a freshman 149 from Chesapeake, VA (Great Bridge), won four of five bouts for ODU to place runner-up at the Carolina Open, losing only to 12th ranked Darren McKnight of Michigan State.

Centennial Adds Two Associate Members

CONFERENCE ADDS TWO ASSOCIATE MEMBERS FOR WRESTLING
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Stevens Institute of Technology Accept Invitations

LANCASTER, Pa. - July 1, 2004 - The Centennial Conference announced that the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Stevens Institute of Technology have accepted invitations to join the Conference as associate members in the sport of wrestling.

The addition of Kings Point and Stevens gives the Conference eight members that sponsor the sport of wrestling - Gettysburg, Johns Hopkins, McDaniel, Muhlenberg, Ursinus, and Washington and Lee (associate member).

"The strong academic reputations of the two institutions were attractive to the Conference's Presidents Council," said John A. Fry, president of Franklin & Marshall College and outgoing chair of the Council. "The solid tradition in wrestling at the Academy and the commitment to the sport at Stevens were also deciding factors as we enhance the Conference both in the sport of wrestling and its overall membership."

"We are thrilled to add Kings Point and Stevens to our wrestling fold," said Steven F. Ulrich, Executive Director of the Conference. "The combination of outstanding academics and a commitment to wrestling makes Kings Point and Stevens a perfect fit for our Conference."

Kings Point was 5-6 in dual competition a year ago and placed sixth out of eight teams in the Metropolitan championships. Stevens' program returns to varsity status in 2004-05 after the program was discontinued in 1992.

The Centennial Conference teams compete in dual round-robin competition during the regular season to be eligible for the end-of-year championship meet. The new members must meet this requirement beginning with the 2005-06 season. All eight members will compete for the Conference title and automatic berths to the NCAA Division III championship on February 19, 2005 at the Centennial championships at Muhlenberg.

Ursinus is the two-time defending Centennial Conference champion.

Top Individual Performances

Mike Russo, Gettysburg (141, Sr, Sewell, NJ / Peddie School) - Russo claimed Gettysburg's first individual conference crown since the 2000 season. Russo scored an 8-5 decision over Ursinus' Sean Donahue before knocking off McDaniel's Dan Patterson 12-5 in the championship bout for the second time this season. Russo enters the NCAA tournament at at 18-10 with one pin and five major decisions.

Karol Gryczynski, Johns Hopkins (Sr, 285, Ellicott City, MD / Mount Hebron) - Gryczynski lost in the heavyweight final, 2-1, to McDaniel's Drew Reinecker, after defeating Mike Pattanito of Gettysburg, 4-2, in the semifinals. He earned the Chris Clifford Memorial

Drew Reinecker, McDaniel (Sr, 285, E. Berlin, PA / Bermudian Springs) - Reinecker won his second straight Centennial Conference Championship at 285 pounds with a 3-0 weekend at the CC tournament.

Dale Mills, Muhlenberg (So, 149, Wernersville, PA / Wilson-West Lawn) - Mills won the CC championship at 149 by recording a technical fall in the semifinals and a 10-4 decision in the final. He will enter his first NCAA tournament with a season record of 26-8.

Scott Roesch, Ursinus (Jr, 157, Egg Harbor Twp. / Absegami) - Roesch was named the outstanding wrestler of the meet, earning a 7-3 victory over McDaniel's Mikey Blake in the finals.

Caleb Seufert, Gettysburg (So, 157, Gaithersburg, MD / Northwest) - Seufert notched the only perfect week for the Bullets. He tallied a 3-0 week, including an 18-4 major decision victory in Gettysburg's final CC match of the season at Johns Hopkins on Thursday. He also recorded a 9-7 decision win in a 41-6 win over SUNY Maritime and a 19-5 major decision in a 26-16 loss to Scranton on Saturday at Wilkes.

Jason Suslavich, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 133, Winchester, MA / Winchester) - Suslavich recorded a 10-2 major decision over Gettysburg's Kevin Dougherty Thursday.

Mark Nakasone, McDaniel (Fr, 149, Ellicott City, MD / Centennial) - Nakasone went 3-0 at McDaniel's tri-meet at King's. The freshman recorded a pair of pins and a decision.

Ethan Powell, Muhlenberg (Fr, 165, Westfield, NJ / Westfield) - Powell went 3-0 with three first-period pins as the Mules concluded their dual-meet season by sweeping a quad match with Washington & Lee, Elizabethtown and Baptist Bible. Powell, who weighed in at 157, moved up two weight classes against Baptist Bible and pinned his bigger opponent in only 71 seconds. His 42-second pin in the Elizabethtown match was the fastest by a Muhlenberg wrestler in a dual meet this season.

Corey Little, Washington & Lee (Sr, 157, Charlotte, NC / Independence) - Little went 2-1 at the Muhlenberg Quad this weekend. He fell to Muhlenberg's Dale Mills, picked up a forfeit win against Bible Baptist and earned a decision versus Elizabethtown's Rob Bozart, 11-4.

CC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT W&L: Ursinus will defend its team title this weekend at the 2004 Centennial Conference Wrestling Championships hosted by Washington & Lee on Saturday, February 21. Josh Kaplan, Gettysburg (So, 165, Canton, CT / Canton) - Kaplan notched a perfect 2-0 week for the Bullets in a pair of close CC losses. On Thursday, he scored a 12-2 major decision in a 23-22 loss to McDaniel. On Saturday, he recorded a 7-1 decision in a 24-21 loss to Muhlenberg.

Joseph Selba, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 165, Pasadena, MD / Mt. St. Joe) - Selba pinned W&L's Walt Hoyt at the 50-second mark and posted a 9-5 decision over Albright's Esrom Montesino Saturday.

Mike Valentino, McDaniel (Fr, 174, S. Brunswick, NJ / S. Brunswick) - Valentino returned from an extended absence to go 2-0 and deliver McDaniel's win over Gettysburg by way of pin. Valentino earned a 10-9 decision over Dave Kraus at Johns Hopkins, and pinned Gettysburg's Aaron Fuchs to put the match out of reach for the Bullets.

Dale Mills, Muhlenberg (So, 149, Wernersville, PA / Wilson-West Lawn) - Mills scored a reversal with fewer than 10 seconds remaining to eke out a 5-4 win against Gettysburg in what proved to be the pivotal match of the Mules' 24-21 win. He also recorded Muhlenberg's lone pin against Ursinus.

Scott Roesch, Ursinus (Jr, 157, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Absegami) - Roesch improved to 32-1 on the season when he pinned Muhlenberg's Chris Gibson in 2:35.

Top Individual Performances

Chris Coogan, Gettysburg (Sr, 184, Newton, MA / Beaver Country Day School) - Coogan notched a 2-1 week for the Bullets. On Tuesday, he recorded Gettysburg's only pin of a match at Elizabethtown (1:40). On Saturday, he dropped a 9-3 decision in the bout against York before winning 5-3 against Messiah.

Tony Dambro, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 197, Glen Mills, PA / Garnet Valley) - Dambro recorded a pin over Matt Fralen of Ursinus at the 1:37 mark in the 197 weight class Wednesday, his third pin of the season.

Dan Patterson, McDaniel (Jr, 141, Sykesville, MD / S. Carroll) - Patterson remained undefeated with a 7-0 decision over UC's Sean Donahoe, and a second period pin of Wilkes' Mike Scieulara. Patterson is now 14-0 on the year.

Josh Carter, Muhlenberg (Sr, HWT, Bucksport, ME / Bucksport) - Carter came back from a 5-0 deficit to pin an Albright opponent who had defeated him earlier in the season. It was the 50th career win for Carter and it helped the Mules snap a five-match losing streak with a 33-12 win.

Kyle Capella, Ursinus (Fr, 184, Egg Harbor City, NJ / Absegami) - Capella went 5-0 on the week for the Bears including a pair of technical falls.

Maxwell Courtney, Washington & Lee (Fr, 184, Jeffersonville, PA / La Salle College) - Courtney went 2-0 in the Ursinus Quadrangular. He pinned Ursinus' Matt Fralen (5:55) then went on to pin McDaniel's Nate Klunk (1:40). In addition to his Centennial bouts, Courtney wrestled Nick Nick DeAngelis from Wilkes, winning by fall (4:56).

Top Individual Performances

Josh Kaplan, Gettysburg (So, 157, Canton, CT / Canton) - Kaplan finished sixth in the 157 bracket at last weekend's North Central (Ill.) Tournament. Coupled with the team's dual match at the University of Chicago on Thursday, he notched a 5-4 week in all of his matches wrestled, 3-4 in official matches.

Joseph Selba, Johns Hopkins (Jr., 165, Pasadena, MD / Mt. St. Joe) - Selba pinned Muhlenberg's Ethan Powell at the 2:21 mark in the 165 weight class Saturday in the Blue Jay's 33-13 win over the Mules.

Dale Mills, Muhlenberg (So, 149, Wernersville, PA / Wilson-West Lawn) - Mills recorded the Mules' only pin in their CC match against Johns Hopkins, flattening his opponent in only 1:44. He notched another fall against Kings Point, opening up a 15-1 lead before finishing off the pin late in the second period.

Sean Howard, Ursinus (Jr, 165, Pennsburg, PA / Upper Perkiomen) - Howard captured the 165-pound title to lead Ursinus to a second-place finish at he Brute/adidas Invitational. Howard went 4-0 on the day including a pin and a major decision.

Maxwell Courtney, Washington & Lee (Fr, 184, Jeffersonville, PA / La Salle College) - Courtney went 2-2 on the day and finished fourth in the 184-pound weight class He opened the invitational by pinning (2:31) Washington and Jefferson's Phil McCormick in the quarterfinals, but fell to Donnie Scruggs (Cumberland), 17-6, in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Courtney defeated Patrick Scandling (Davidson) with a 6-3 decision, but couldn't hold on in the consolation finals, falling to Trevor Needham (Scranton), 4-2.

Tom Fives, Gettysburg (Jr, 149, Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) - Fives recorded a 2-0 day in his first outing of 2004 with a pair of decision victories at the Davidson Quad match this past Friday. In the conference opener against Washington & Lee, he notched a 7-5 win before tallying a 3-2 win against Division I Davidson.

Reno Reitmayr, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 149, Wantagh, NY / Macarthur) - Reitmayr posted a 3-1 individual record in leading Johns Hopkins to three wins in four matches at the North-South duals. He picked up two pins and a decision on the day.

Josh Carter, Muhlenberg (Sr, 285, Bucksport, ME / Bucksport) - Carter was a perfect 6-0 with three pins and a major decision. All three pins were in 1:12 or less. Carter leads the Mules with eight falls this season and is the ninth wrestler in team history to record 20 career pins.

Freddy Pontoriero, McDaniel (Fr, 149, Toms River, NJ / TR East) - Pontoriero went 4-0 at the North South Duals with two pins and two decisions. His falls came at 0:33, and 1:44.

Scott Roesch, Ursinus (Jr, 149, Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Absegami) - Roesch collected his 100th career win in the North/South Duals where he went 4-0 to lead Ursinus to a 2-1 mark. Roesch has just one loss this season and has captured five tournament titles.

POSTING THE SHUTOUT: On Friday, Gettysburg recorded its first shutout in the sport of wrestling since the 1997-98 season when the Bullets shutout Haverford 57-0, just before the Fords dropped wrestling. The last time Gettysburg posted two shutouts in the same season was 1995-96 (Haverford 58-0 and Johns Hopkins 52-0).

Mike Pattanite, Gettysburg (Fr, 285, Tabernacle, NJ / Holy Cross) - Pattanite was the top Bullet finisher at the annual Messiah-Petrofes Invitational this past weekend. He placed seventh in the heavyweight division after a 2-2 weekend.

Reno Reitmayr, Johns Hopkins (Jr, 149, Wantagh, NY / Macarthur) - Reitmayr was unseeded and placed seventh at the Petrofes Invitational. He dropped his first match to fourth-seeded Tom Fives of Gettysburg before winning three straight (twice by pin). Overall he was 4-2 at the tournament.

Matt Loesch, Muhlenberg (Fr, 197, Carsonville, PA / Upper Dauphin) - Loesch finished second in a strong field at the Petrofes Invitational. In his semifinal match against a Springfield wrestler ranked seventh in Division III, Loesch was trailing 5-0 when he scored a quick takedown and pin in the final minute. He wrestled well in the final against the second-ranked 197-pounder, but suffered the first loss of his young career on a 6-3 decision.

Eddie Murray, Ursinus (So, 125, Lancaster, PA / Lampeter-Strasburg) - Murray was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Petrofes Invitational after posting a 5-0 mark and defeating nationally-ranked Sal Cruz, 7-4, in the 125-pound championship.

John Witzenbocker, Johns Hopkins (So, 125, Merrick, NY / Chaminade) - Witzenbocker won the 125-pound bracket Saturday at the Oneonta State Red Dragon Invitational. He was unseeded in the bracket and went 4-0 and while defeating the first, third, fourth, and fifth seeds to win the weight class.

"Scuba" Steve Jennings, McDaniel (174, So, Beltsville, MD) - Jennings went 3-2 at the Navy Classic to finish in 6th place. Jennings recorded wins by fall, technical fall, and decision.

Matt Loesch, Muhlenberg (Fr, 197, Carsonville, PA / Upper Dauphin) - Loesch won a tournament championship for the second week in a row, capturing the title at the Ursinus Invitational.

HOPKNS AT RED DRAGON INVITE: Karol Gryczynski (Sr, Ellicott City, MD / Mount Hebron) was the top seed and won the heavyweight division at the Red Dragon Invitational by going 4-0. Tim Wagner (Sr, Spencer, IA / Spencer) went 5-1 to finish third in the 165-pound weight class, and led all wrestlers at the invitational with four pins. Wagner is 7-2 this season and leads the Blue Jays with six pins.

GREEN TERROR AT NAVY CLASSIC: McDaniel was the lone Division III team in the Navy Classic. The Green Terror faced wrestlers from The Citadel, West Virginia, Navy, Rutgers, NC State, and Kent State. Top Individual Performances

Matt Miller, Gettysburg (Sr, 165, Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) - Miller went 5-2 and recorded a team-best three pins at the Ithaca Invitational on Nov. 7-8. After being pinned in his second match of the championship bracket, Miller wrestled his way back in the consolation bracket. He fell two wins away from a guartanteed sixth-place or better finish.

David Kraus, Johns Hopkins (174, Potomac, MD/Churchill) - Kraus placed third in the 174 weight class at the Monarch Invitational Saturday. Advanced through the championship bracket to the semifinals, and posted a 5-1 record on the day. Went 1-1 in home matches against York and Wilkes on November 8.

"Scuba" Steve Jennings, McDaniel (174, So, Beltsville, MD) - Jennings earned the Green Terror Duals outstanding wrestler award after going 4-1 with four pins during the Third Annual Green Terror Duals.

Matt Loesch, Muhlenberg (Fr, 197, Carsonville, PA / Upper Dauphin) - Loesch began his collegiate career by winning the 197-pound class at the Monarch Invitational. He won all four of his bouts, starting with a pin and wrapping up the championship with a major decision in the title bout.

Mike Troutman, Ursinus (So, Reading, PA / Exeter) - Troutman won the 184-pound title at the Messiah Invitaitonal and the Monarch Invitational. He is a perfect 7-0 this season.

Notes from around the Conference

A YOUNG GREEN TERROR TEAM: McDaniel's lineup for the Green Terror Duals featured eight freshmen. Drew Reinecker, Adam Dayton, and French Pope are expected to return to the mat in the near future following the end of McDaniel's football season.

McDANIEL BLANKED: Delaware Valley's blanking of McDaniel was the first time the Terror was shut out in a match since 1/4/97 when Messiah left the Terror without a point.

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
NATIONALLY-RANKED WESTERN MARYLAND IS FAVORITE

Western Maryland reclaimed its dual-meet title this year after Muhlenberg ended the Terror's three-year streak in 2001, but WMC is working on two consecutive Conference team championships and is favored to make it a third in 2002. The Green Terror finished the dual-meet season with a 5-0 record in Conference and a national ranking of 15th in the February 5th poll. Muhlenberg and Ursinus will give WMC a run for its money, while Gettysburg, Johns Hopkins and Washington & Lee can also play spoiler.

125: This class figures to be a test of youth against experience. Battling for the gold will be Western Maryland's two-time defending CC champion and All-American Vinny Pedalino (12-1), currently ranked fourth at 125, and Gettysburg freshman Luke Palumbo (28-8). Ursinus' Jeremy Barnett (24-16) will figure in to the mix as will Muhlenberg's Brian Marcotulli (12-17).

133: The second Green Terror in the National rankings makes his appearance at 133. Freshman Dan Patterson sports a 23-1 record and is fifth in the national rankings. His biggest challenge will come from Hopkins' Brian Frank (11-5), last year's runner-up and Gettysburg's Steve Kareha (22-11), last year's bronze medalist. Muhlenberg's Jeremy Hart (17-15) could also factor.

141: Muhlenberg's Nate Yeasted (29-7), the 2001 CC Champion at 133 and Most Outstanding Wrestler of last year's meet, will be battling it out with Gettysburg's Mike Russo (16-10), but keep an eye on Ursinus' Dan Williams (23-10) in the hunt for gold.

149: Defending CC Champion Bill Holsinger (26-1) is the favorite to repeat. The Muhlenberg senior's only loss this year came to a nationally-ranked competitor, but the Bears' Scott Roesch (36-8) could be just the grappler to take him down. Watch for WMC's freshman Mikey Blake (19-7) to be in the medal rounds as well.

157: Sean Howard (22-11) of Ursinus has the top record in the CC (5-0), but Muhlenberg's Joe Salerno (18-16) and Western Maryland's Shawn Calhoun (11-11) will be fighting for crucial team points.

165: Look for Muhlenberg's Andrew Faust (17-3) and Ursinus' Dan Cwalina (22-12) to square off in the finals. Faust is a perfect 5-0 in Conference while Cwalina boasts a 4-0 record. WMC's Caleb Moore (7-11) and Washington & Lee's Alex Poor (11-16) could factor into the medal rounds as could Hopkins' Tim Wagner (10-7).

174: The Generals will be looking to Ivan Zdanov (17-6) to bring home their second individual title. The Green Terrors' Andy Chencharik (14-9) and Ursinus' Sebastian Volatrelli (10-21) figure to be his toughest competition.

184: Joe Mueller (14-9) captured Washington & Lee's first-ever Conference title last year but WMC's Dan Riggs (21-3) may hinder a repeat performance. The Bears' Travis Allred (16-10) will factor into medal rounds.

197: This could be a repeat of last year's championship with WMC's Chris McNally (20-1) and W&L's Ezra Morse (13-0) battling it out for the title. McNally won last year's championship by a 5-3 decision and the two have yet to meet this year.

285: Muhlenberg's Tyler Cathey (9-0) will be looking for his fourth gold medal but his teammate Josh Carter (19-6) may be his biggest obstacle. At press time, it was uncertain which wrestler would represent the Mules at the championship. Regardless, Blue Jay Karol Gryczynski (24-6) will challenge either grappler. WMC's Drew Reinecker (9-2) could also medal.

DUAL MEET CHAMPION: Western Maryland claimed the Dual Meet title with a perfect 5-0 record following a win over Gettysburg. This is the fourth title for the Green Terror who claimed the honor in 1998, 1999 and 2000 before Muhlenberg took top honors last year.

Around the Conference

Freshman Luke Palumbo (Edgewater, MD / Annapolis Christian) continues to lead the Bullets with three wins last week. The 125-pounder recorded a major decision against Shippensburg and then took two Conference wins over Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins by falls. He leads Gettysburg with 20 wins and is tied for first on the team with six pins. Junior Steve Kareha (Allentown, PA / William Allen) leads the team in points with 48 and is tied with Palumbo with six pins.

Johns Hopkins snapped a 10-match Conference losing streak with a 30-15 win over Gettysburg. Junior 133 Brian Frank (Columbia, MD / Howard) won both of his matches to improve to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the league. Sophomore 285 Karol Gryczynski (Ellicott City, MD / Mount Hebron) split his matches and is now 20-5 overall.

Sophomore 184 Joe Mueller (San Diego, CA / Mt Carmel) took second place at the 25th Annual Washington & Lee Invitational while senior 174 Ivan Zdanov (Frederick, MD / Frederick) took third. Mueller won his semifinal bout 3-2 before losing in the finals, 5-3. Zdanov pinned his first opponent in 1:24 then lost in the semifinals, 11-8, before winning the consolation championship, 7-0.

Muhlenberg senior 149 Bill Holsinger (Pennsburg, PA / Quakertown Community) continued his string of victories with a pin and a major decision against Johns Hopkins and Gettysburg. Holsinger is now 20-0 on the season and only five of his victories have been by regular decision. He has 10 pins, three majors and two forfeits. Classmate Tyler Cathey (Jacksonville, Fl / Bishop Kenny) scored a 3-0 decision against the Blue Jays for his 29th consecutive dual-meet win and his 60th career win overall. He has never lost a bout to a CC opponet.

Western Maryland showed its depth when freshman 149 Mikey Blake (Betterton, MD / Kent County) was the only two-time winner to actually wrestle twice in a three-match sweep of Wilkes, Howard and Delaware St. Blake scored a pair of decisions over Wilkes and Howard while the Green Terror used a combination of depth and forfeits to claim the three victories.

THE PERFECT WEEK: Johns Hopkins had three grapplers post perfect records for the week despite the team's loss to Western Maryland. Sophomore 285 Karol Gryczynski (Ellicott City, MD / Mount Hebron) was 4-0 to improve to 19-4 on the season. He has won 13 of his past 14 matches. Classmate Reed Shelger (Sugar Land, TX / Woodberry Forest) went 3-0 at 174 and freshman 165 Pat Marti (Warren, PA / Warren) recorded two pins and a technical fall for a matching 3-0 mark. Shelger also had two pins in his first action of the season.

OLDER'S NOT NECESSARILY BETTER: The Gettysburg underclassmen are turning out to be the team leaders as several are atop the squads' season records. Freshman 125 Luke Palumbo (Edgewater, MD / Annapolis Christian) leads the team in wins with 18 and is second in points (27), pins (4) and takedowns (26). Sophomore 141 Mike Russo (Sewell, NJ / Peddie School) is first on the team in takedowns (35) and has posted nine wins, third best on the team. Junior 133 Steve Kareha (Allentown, PA / William Allen), who leads the team in both pins (6) and team points (42), was the only member of the team to register a non-forfeit win at the Virginia Duals.

URSINUS INVITATIONAL: Washington & Lee senior Ivan Zadanov (Frederick, MD / Frederick) claimed second place in the 174-pound class at the Ursinus Invitational. Zadanov defeated Sebastian Voltarelli (Montclair, NJ / Montclair) of Ursinus, 6-0, before falling 9-2 in the finals.

FALLING COMPETITION: Senior 149 Bill Holsinger (Pennsburg, PA / Quakertown Community) continued his unbeaten streak with a pair of pins to lead the Mules to wins over Maritime and Kings Point. Holsinger has won 16 bouts this season with half of those victories by way of falls. Junior heavyweight Tyler Cathey (Jacksonville, FL / Bishop Kenny) posted a 13-1 major decision to clinch the win over Kings Point and claim his 28th consecutive dual-meet victory.

TERROR TAKES THIRD: Western Maryland was dealt its first loss of the season at the Virginia Duals but recovered to defeat national champion Grand Valley and take third at the event. Vinny Pedalino (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) picked up four wins at 125. Pedalino is currently ranked fourth at 125. Freshman 133 Dan Patterson (Sykesville, Md / South Carroll) won three matches before he dropped his first of the season and extended his season mark to 16-1.

Petrofes Invitaional
Five of the six teams in the Conference competed in the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah College. Western Maryland won the event for the second straight year, becoming only the second program to accomplish such a feat in the 32-year history of the tournament. The Green Terror placed six finishers in the top three spots, including three champions. Defending Conference Champion Vinny Pedalino (Tom's River, NJ / Tom's River East) lost a 1-0 decision in the finals of the 125-class. Freshman Dan Patterson (Sykesville, MD / South Carroll) tallied a fall at the 4:49 mark to take the 133-class and senior Rob Johns (Edgemere, MD / Calvert Hall) won at 157 by a 6-4 decision. Senior Chris McNally (Pomfret, MD / McDonugh) tallied the third win for the Green Terror with an 18-6 major decision at 197.

Freshman Scott Roesch (Egg Harbor City, NJ / Absegami) led Ursinus to a sixth place finish by posting a 4-1 mark for the day as the runner-up at 149. Junior Travis Allred (Paoli, PA / Conestoga) won four matches to finish fourth at 184 for the Bears. Junior Nate Yeasted (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville) and sophomore Josh Carter (Buscksport, ME / Buscksport) were the top finishers for Muhlenberg. Yeasted finished third at 133 with an 8-5 decision while Carter fell to defending Conference Champion Karol Gryczynski (Ellicott City, MD / Mount Hebron) of Johns Hopkins by a 5-1 decision in the third place match of the heavyweight division.

Washington & Lee finished fourth in the 11-team Scranton Invitational with 47.5 points. Senior Ezra Morse (Central Point, OR / Crater) won the 197-class with a 4-3 decision in the finals. Sophomore 184 Joseph Mueller (San Diego, CA / Mount Carmel) and senior 174 Ivan Zdanov (Frederick, MD / Frederick) took home silvers in their respective weight class.

Around the Conference

PICKING UP RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Muhlenberg senior 149 Bill Holsinger (Pennsburg, PA / Quakertown Community) has not missed a beat from last season, when he captured the Conference championship. Holsinger won the title at the Monarch Invitational at King's, winning four bouts, including a 4-3 decision over Rory Tobias of Oneonta in the final. He is 8-0 on the season.

ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES A CHAMPION: Washington & Lee senior 197 Ezra Morse (Central Point, OR / Crater) won his weight class for the third straight year at the VMI Keydet Invitational. He won all three matches by decision, including a 3-2 triumph over Matt Bishop of Cumberland in the final.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Western Maryland freshman 133 Dan Patterson (Sykesville, MD / South Carroll) is 8-0 in his collegiate career, including six wins by fall. He captured the title at Oneonta and also took home the award for Most Falls (4).

CARTER COUNTRY: Muhlenberg football fans had enjoyed watching Joshua Carter on the gridiron for four seasons. Now Mule wrestling fans can enjoy Josh Carter on the mat. Actually, the 5-7 football Carter bares little resemblance to the sophomore heavyweight in stature, but the results are similar. Josh Carter (Bucksport, ME / Bucksport) took the heavyweight crown at King's with three decisions, including a 5-4 triumph over Aaron Head of Tompkins-Cortland CC.

TERROR-IFIC: Western Maryland senior 157 Rob Johns (Edgemere, MD / Calvert Hall), a two-time Centennial champion, rolled to the individual crown at the Oneonta Invitational, winning all five bouts. He decisioned Otis Place on Oneonta, 5-3, in the final.

ROOKIES TO WATCH: A number of fresh faces made an impact for their teams in the November tournaments. Gettysburg freshman 125 Luke Palumbo (Edgewater, MD / Annapolis Christian) finished third at Messiah, while Johns Hopkins freshman 157 Chris Myers (Warminster, PA / Germantown) also took home a bronze medal. Ursinus freshman 157 Sean Howard (Pennsburg, PA / Upper Perkiomen) was runner-up at the Monarch Invitational, while classmate Scott Roesch (Egg Harbor City, NJ / Absegami) was third at 149.
