Johns Hopkins 21, #27 McDaniel 16
BALTIMORE, Md. ---Johns Hopkins won four of the final five bouts and freshman Chris Floyd picked up a 9-7 decision over Courtney Nightengale in the 165-pound weight class to seal a stunning, 21-16 victory over 27th-ranked McDaniel at Hopkins' Goldfarb Gymnasium Wednesday night. The win snaps a 10-match losing streak for the Blue Jays at the hands of the Green Terror and improves JHU's record to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. McDaniel had a three-match winning streak snapped and falls to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial. Johns Hopkins had last defeated McDaniel (which was then known as Western Maryland), in 1995, 27-22.

The Blue Jays led 18-12 entering the final two weight classes (157 and 165), but the Green Terror drew to within 18-16 as freshman Zach Hetrick scored a 12-3 major decision over Avi Dunn to put the outcome of the match on the shoulders of Floyd and Nightengale. Floyd built a 6-1 lead at the end of the first period, led 6-3 entering the final period and was still up 7-3 late in the match before Nightengale scored two takedowns in the final minute. However, Floyd worked for an escape after the first takedown and earned one point on riding time to secure the 9-7 win and give the Blue Jays the victory.

McDaniel jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead as a Tony Howard's 12-3 major decision over David Kraus at 174 to open the match was followed by a tough 6-2 win by Andrew Winfield over Eric Fishel at 184. The Blue Jays grabbed the momentum by winning four of the next five matches to take a 15-12 lead with three bouts remaining. Freshman Tyler Schmidt started the Blue Jays on the comeback trail as he picked up an impressive 6-4 win over Steve Jennings at 197 and classmate Vince Domestico followed with a pin of Keith English at the 4:16 mark to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the match, 9-7.

Senior Steve Colasuonno needed 6:12 to put the Green Terror back in front as he scored s 22-7 technical fall victory over Mike Sumner at 125. The Blue Jays regained the lead with three straight decisions at 133, 141 and 149 to take an 18-12 lead. Jimmy Van Daniker defeated Artie Kaehler, 4-0 at 133, Marco Priolo outlasted Rob Wiley, 6-4, at 141 and Jim Crumlish earned a hard-fought 6-0 victory over Brad Gabrish at 149 to give the Blue Jays the six-point at 18-12. That set the stage for Hetrick's victory and Floyd's match-sealing win at 165.
