Apple Valley/Clash/Governor's Cup Photo's
The pictures show Gov. Pawlenty (right), Coach Jim Jackson
(center) and the Apple Valley Wrestling Team (left) together. Apple
Valley is presenting "The Governor's Cup" from The Clash:
National High School Wrestling Duals to Minnesota Governor Tim
Pawlenty. Governor Pawlenty graciously hosted Apple Valley,
13 time State Champions, for the first time, after they won
the unprecedented National High School Wrestling Duals this
past January. The Governor's Cup, a traveling Trophy, is
given to the Clash Championship team to present to their respective
Governor for the year. The cup is then returned to the Tourney
to be awarded again each year to the new Clash Champion. Governor
Pawlenty has already agreed to invite the Governor's of the respective
States that will be represented by their teams at the Clash
III next Dec. 30/31st, 2004. He is hoping to be hosting
another Minnesota team next Spring following next year's event.

one of his pupils Tom Ritchie has earned 3 Alaska State Coach

18 STATE CHAMPIONS RETURN; 18 Minnesota individual state champions
return to defend their titles this season. Nine champions return
in "AA", six in "A", and 3 in Class "AAA".
Two young men will be going for their fourth straight stae titles
in Class "AA" Jeff Pfaffinger (Bkue-Earth Area) and

16 Champions have set their sights on their second individual
title. Class "AAA" champions include Jacob Schlotte

Pat Salonek of Howard Lake-Waverly/Winsted.
TEAM RACES: In "AAA", Apple Valley is in a league of
their own and will have only token competition in defending their
title. Owatonna or Simley could meet them in the finals. Wadena-Deer
Creek seems to be the favorite in Class "AA" and longtime
power Paynesville is the darkhorse along with Blue Earth Area.
Class "A" looks to be a shootout with longtime power
Frazee the favorite to duke it out with either BOLD or Adrian;
or whoever comes out of their Region, where 4 of the top 5 ranked
teams reside in Section 4A. Goodhue & Medford are dark horses.
