Deron Winn Commits to Wrestle at St. Louis CC at Meramec

Deron Winn, a senior at Liberty high school in Liberty, MO has verbally committed to St Louis CC at Meramec. Winn placed 3rd in state as a freshman and won state titles both as a sophomore and junior in a dominant fashion while compiling an overall record of 117-6. His summer wrestling accomplishments are even more impressive. In 2003 he was the Schoolboy national champion in Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Folkstyle to win the Kids Triple Crown. In 2004 he won the Cadet Nationals in Greco-Roman and placed 6th in Freestyle. In 2005 he won the Cadet Nationals in Greco-Roman and Freestyle, and in 2006 he was the Junior National Champion in Greco-Roman and placed 4th in Freestyle. The 189 pound wrestler will likely compete at the 184 pound weight class in college.

"We are thrilled to have a young man of Deron's caliber commit to our program" said legendary Meramec coach Ron Mirikitani. "His accomplishments speak volumes about his work ethic and commitment to excellence." "Deron is the kind of young man we want in our program" said assistant coach David Mirikitani. "He is focused on constantly improving and continues to compete and train all year round. Hopefully other young men will see our program in an ever more positive light and will consider Meramec strongly when making a choice on where to continue their collegiate careers."

"I really like the guys on the team and the coaching staff at Meramec" said Winn. "I am extremely close to my family and friends, and Meramec just felt like a natural fit from the moment I began talking to the coaches. I am committed to doing my best both athletically and academically during my final year at Liberty, at Meramec and at a four year university after that."

"I also had a great feeling about Meramec from the first conversation I had with Coach David Mirikitani. It will be very hard letting Deron go away but I feel comfortable that he will be with people who truly care about his success academically and on the mat," said Stacy Winn, Deron’s mother.

Winn is ranked as the #13 overall recruit in ALL weight classes by intermatwrestle.com.
