I agree with the situation that the last comment regarding
Title IX.
Wrestling has been one of the first sports to be cut because it
is
convenient for athletic departments to do so. Syracuse's loss
was the
University of Missouri's gain when Coach Brian Smith landed here
a few
years ago, and now Mizzou is ranked in the top 10 and has witnessed
wrestling like the University has never seen before.
A few years back, I wrote a novel and it was just published.
Purely
fictional, but I wanted to champion the sport of wrestling to
the
general sports fan, hitting on the nuances of the sport and the
dedication of the wrestler, coaches and family.
If anyone is interested, go to www.thedeerstand.net , where
there is an
introduction and some excerpts. Hopefully, the sports community
will
realize, on a novice level, what wrestlers must do in this noble
sport.
I welcome all comments. It is attended for adult audiences
(mature
audiences) solely because of the adult language.

We have had a great response to the release of the new Coaches Syllabus. This is a fantastic product that has tremendous user friendly features.
Remember that the initial offering price is substantially lower ($75) and is available through December 31st.
USA Wrestling Releases the Next Edition in its
National Coaching Syllabus
The USA Wrestling National Coaches Education Program in conjunction with Championship Access has created the 3rd Edition of the official Coaches Syllabus for USA Wrestling. The 3rd Edition of the Syllabus takes a dramatic step forward by releasing the wrestling content on interactive DVDs.
No longer will coaches have to struggle with ways to bring multimedia content into a practice; the DVD format now makes wrestling skills quickly available for wrestlers to study and practice, without having to mess with fast-forwarding and reversing a video.
The syllabus gives detailed instruction in all facets of the sport of wrestling from three camera angles that include audio, video and text instruction. Each move is available in slow motion, real time or frame-by-frame mode. One of more exciting features allows for continual loop playback of any move, essentially making every move its own drill.
Coaches will now find it easier to work with kids at different levels of skill. As one group of wrestlers works with takedowns from the DVD, the coach can easily work with another group on a different skill. The USA Wrestling National Coaches Syllabus will speed up progression and learning for any wrestling team.
The complete eight DVD set utilizes America's National Team wrestlers working with the United States Men's Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson and Greco-Roman Coach Steve Fraser. Any wrestler in the country can now have their wrestling skills reinforced by two Olympic Gold Medalists!
Olympic Champion Rulon Gardner remarked, *Any wrestling program in the country will benefit from the National Syllabus because the technique is presented in such a great user-friendly format.*
For a short time only USA Wrestling's National Coaches Education Program is making the complete eight DVD set available for a dramatically reduced initial-offering price. Coaches can receive the full series featuring four discs of freestyle skills and four discs of Greco-Roman skill for a total of $207.95 including shipping and handling.
After the initial-offering price is terminated the complete DVD set will sell for over $270. Coaches are encouraged to get on the same page by utilizing the new 3rd Edition of the official Coaches Syllabus, available for the first time ever on DVD!
Orders must be received by December 31st 2003 to guarantee the $207.95 initial offering price.

NFHS/ASEP
to present coaches education awards
Contact: Tim Flannery
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 1, 2003) - The National Federation
of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the American Sport
Education Program (ASEP) will present the Pat McSwegin Coaches
Education Award December 14 in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the
NFHS National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics.
The award is given in memory of Pat McSwegin, a former professor
at the University of Missouri, and a coaching education advocate
and longtime NFHS/ASEP faculty member.
The NFHS and ASEP created the award to recognize both NFHS
member state high school associations and individual instructors
who, like McSwegin, have promoted coaching education in exemplary
ways in their states. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic
Association (TSSAA) will be the state association recipient of
this award, and the individual instructor award will be given
to Mike Small of Illinois. Gatorade, the educational partner of
the NFHS, is sponsoring the awards program and reception. Katie
Cole, Gatorade marketing manager, said, "With leaders like
the TSSAA and Mike Small in their respective states, we have no
doubt that this program will have a positive impact on the sports
experience of America's student-athletes."
The TSSAA has educated almost 3,000 coaches in Coaching Principles
and Sport First Aid since the inception of its coaching education
initiative. That number translates to an average of 550 coaches
per year who have received this instruction. In addition, the
TSSAA has taken responsibility for scheduling coaching education
clinics throughout the state and administering all aspects of
the program.
Mike Small of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, has distinguished himself
from many other instructors by conducting more than 220 clinics
and training 4,664 coaches in the Coaching Principles course and
4,182 coaches in Sport First Aid. He was instrumental in persuading
the Illinois High School Association Board of Directors to allow
non-teaching personnel to coach in that state, providing they
had completed a coaching education program. Small, who has had
a lifelong involvement with athletics, including a 30-year career
as an athletic director, is a member of the Illinois Basketball
Coaches Hall of Fame.
"The NFHS is proud to recognize the contributions of Ronnie
Carter and Bernard Childress of the TSSAA, as well as Mike Small
of Illinois, for their untiring efforts to promote coaches educational
programs," said Bob Kanaby, NFHS executive director. "Their
successful work reflects the concern and commitment they share
for student-athletes at the high school level."
Jerry Reeder, sales implementation manager of ASEP, added, "Both
Mike and the TSSAA are shining examples of the efforts being made
to move coaching from a casual occupation to a profession."
The American Sport Education Program has been developing and delivering coaches education courses since 1981. In 1990, ASEP began a partnership with the NFHS to develop and deliver coaches education courses for high school coaches. Thirty-five states now require the NFHS/ASEP courses for their high school coaches, and more than 75 universities use NFHS/ASEP courses and resources. In the past year, the NFHS/ASEP partnership has revised the Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid courses to embark on a bronze level credential program for coaches. For the first time in 2004, these courses will be offered online in addition to their previous classroom format. Specific sport technique and tactics courses are also being developed online. For more information, visit the NFHS Web site at www.nfhs.org or ASEP at www.asep.com.

"Ray Nunamaker's Inside the Nazareth Wrestling Room"
Fellow Coaches, Wrestlers, Parents and Fans:
I've put a lifetime of effort, 34 years as head wrestling coach, into developing a successful wrestling program at Nazareth High School (PA). I believe that effort translates into a formula for winning that everyone can use. Now that I've retired from coaching, I would like to share those things with you.
"Ray Nunamaker's Inside the Nazareth Wrestling Room" features actual practices, coaching tips, technique, and my coaching philosophy in a five VHS series containing in excess of twelve hours of footage. Recorded from actual practices of the Nazareth High School wrestling team during my final year of coaching, this is a chronologically arranged series beginning with the sequence of moves that should be covered to get ready for the start of the season and progressing through to the end of the season.
You'll see first-hand why an emphasis on "overlearning" basic technique will yield greater success than teaching a wide variety of moves. As an added bonus, I've included a written schedule for each day of practice that coordinates with these videos.
These are the same base schedules I've used to develop a nationally ranked program that has yielded several recent collegiate All-Americans, and an NCAA Champion, Rob Rohn, Lehigh University, 2002.
For your convenience, I've included ordering information and testimonials from coaches and wrestlers who have benefited from "Ray Nunamaker's Inside the Nazareth Wrestling Room."
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Product Description
Five VHS tape series - each contains over 2 hours of footage
1. Tape 1: Week One of the Wrestling Season
2. Tape 2: Week Two of the Wrestling Season
3. Tape 3: Early Season beginning week three
4. Tape 4: Mid Season
5. Tape 5: Late Season
This series is invaluable to wrestling coaches at all levels as it integrates all aspects of coaching including how to structure and run practice, weight control, coaching tips, conditioning, which moves to teach when, weight lifting, and the all important mental aspect.
Practice outlines are included and correlate by VCR counter to each VHS tape.
These outlines provide you with a minute by minute accounting of real practices held in the Nazareth wrestling room. There were thirteen varsity starters on this team - one went on to win an NCAA Division I title, another was an All-American, two more went on to compete in Division I, two in Division III, four at community college, one immediately joined the Navy and aspires to be a SEAL, one played Division III baseball, and one became the Penn State Nittany Lion.
Other training videos teach using isolated examples, this series teaches the technique and how to incorporate it into your practice ensuring your team learns the right moves at the right time to achieve optimum success.
Testimonials
"What a great opportunity to get inside the wrestling room and observe the daily grind in developing a first class program - a unique opportunity! I have not seen anything like this - much more than a technique video. Any coach (elementary, club, junior, senior high or college) will benefit from this program. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to make practices more productive." John Fritz, Penn State University, Head Wrestling Coach (retired)
"After watching your tapes on "Inside the Nazareth Wrestling Room", I am duly impressed with the organization and presentation of the product. The coaching methods and implementation are precise and easily understood. All phases of how to run a successful program, including proper weight control, fund raising, setting goals, and philosophies are clearly covered. The presentation format of the video tape is much easier to understand than a book, and it's the closest thing to actually being at the practice sessions." Tom Canty, East Ramapo HS, member New York State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame
"We, staff and myself, have much appreciated the opportunity to view a superb wrestling program in the actual process of developing its competitors, and that's surely a fine set of competitors that you folks at Nazareth developed·As my own career winds down, you make me realize I have not been as wise as yourself in that I did not conceive to leave behind a vast film record of training methods -you are to be commended and thanked by all who will witness and benefit." John Allen, Seton Hall Prep, coach of Mike Caruso, 3x NCAA Champion, Lehigh University
"You served the community of Nazareth so well over the years. However, you also had a tremendous impact on making the Lehigh Valley the best high school wrestling area in the country. You were always one to give advice to a young coach or wrestler from another program and to share ideas with your colleagues. There are the reasons why you are admired and respected by so many people in the wrestling communities throughout the country." Bob Ferraro, Executive Director, National High School Coaches Association
"Coach Nunamaker taught wrestling and the value at working toward our goals. He is a great leader who demanded respect and got it." Mike Frick, Nazareth HS, Assistant Coach 1994 & 1995, NCAA Division I Champion 1975 (Outstanding Wrestler) and 1976
"You are truly one of the greatest high school coaches I have had the opportunity to work with. I know you have had a great influence on hundreds of young wrestlers." Bruce Baumgartner, Head Wrestling Coach, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Olympic Champion
"After getting the job at North Carolina State University, I still can recall my first recruiting stop at Nazareth high school and your help and advice in recruiting two of your wrestlers. I'll never forget when you and I would stay long after everyone else left the mats at summer camp to work on technique·.I would personally like to thank you for your help and friendship over the years." Bob Guzzo, Head Coach, North Carolina State University
"I owe a lot to Mr. Nunamaker and so do many other wrestlers from the years past. His hard work and positive attitude allowed many people to push through difficult obstacles and become champions." Travis Doto, Nazareth High School, PIAA State Champion 1995 and Lehigh University, NCAA All-American 2000
"Coach helped me to be the best I could be, and to always set high goals for myself." Chris Vitale, Nazareth HS, State 2nd, 112-32, Lehigh University, NCAA All-American 2001, East Stroudsburg University, Graduate Asst. Coach
"From the perspective of the Likins family, you always set the highest standards of competitive excellence without sacrifice of proper values·beginning with integrity." Peter Likins, President, University of Arizona, former President Lehigh University

USA
Wrestling names two-time Olympic champion Sergei Beloglazov as
Freestyle Resident Coach
USA Wrestling has named two-time Olympic champion and internationally respected coach Sergei Beloglazov as its Freestyle Resident Coach, announced Executive Director Rich Bender.
Beloglazov joined USA Wrestling*s national staff from his most recent position as the Head National Coach for Russia in freestyle wrestling.
He has moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. and will coach the U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athletes in freestyle wrestling, as well as the nation*s elite freestyle wrestlers who come there for training opportunities. He will work closely with National Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson to help the United States achieve its goal of being the world*s best wrestling team.
Beloglazov has been coaching the U.S. athletes in recent months, and has now completed the necessary logistical details to move to the United States permanently and work full-time for USA Wrestling.
*Sergei Beloglazov brings a unique talent and ability to our freestyle program,* said Executive Director Rich Bender. *We feel that Sergei Beloglazov and Kevin Jackson form the strongest coaching staff in the world today. We are excited for our athletes to have the opportunity to work with one of wrestling*s greatest athletes and coaches. Our organization is fortunate to add such a technically skilled and experienced coach to the team.*
Beloglazov is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Competing for the Soviet Union, Beloglazov dominated the 57 kg/125.5 lbs. division during the 1980*s. He won Olympic gold medals at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia and the 1988 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.
He also claimed six World Championship gold medals (1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987). His amazing gold-medal winning streak was only interrupted in 1984, when the Soviet Union boycotted the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Among the other major achievements of his athletic career were five European Championship gold medals, a 1986 World Cup title and a 1986 Goodwill Games title. He was also a 1979 World silver medalist, and captured a 1975 Espoir World silver medal.
Beloglazov competed with a technical proficiency and power that was unmatched during his era. Wrestling fans marveled at his crisp, clean and explosive style, which allowed him to dominate his opponents for a decade.
Beloglazov brings tremendous coaching experience to his position at USA Wrestling. He served as a Head National Coach for world power Russia for five years, and was also its Technical Director. Russia has been the dominant nation in international freestyle wrestling, winning the most freestyle wrestling medals at the 2000 Olympic Games and claiming World Team titles in 1997, 1999 and 2001.
He also served as the National Freestyle Coach for Japan over four years, and was its 1996 Olympic Coach. During his tenure, he worked with World silver medalist Takahiro Wada and Olympic bronze medalist Takuya Ota and the rest of the Japanese national team.
After his competitive career ended, Beloglazov also coached four years in the United States as an assistant coach for Lehigh University, one of the nation*s top Div. I wrestling powers.
He is also considered one of the best clinicians in the world, and is one of the most sought-after instructors of freestyle wrestling. For four years, he was the FILA instructor for the International Wrestling Seminar held in Rome, Italy. His peers recognize him as one of the best minds in the sport.
Sergei has a twin brother Anatoly, who was also an Olympic and World Champion for the Soviet Union, competing at a lower division than Sergei.
*I think I can help, especially in the par terre position,* said Beloglazov. *My point of view is more technical than physical. In the United States, they wrestle more physical than technical. The rules of wrestling have changed. Matches are shorter and are more intense. Technique is much more important. I really think I can help technically.*
*The U.S. team works very hard,* he continued. *If the U.S. team improves in par terre, especially on top, the team will be much better. It is good to know this and work on this before the Olympic Games. Kevin Jackson asks me for my advice. When he wants my help, I work with the national team.*
Beloglazov, along with his wife and two children, have moved to Colorado Springs full-time.
*Everybody is together here, and it is much more comfortable,* said Beloglazov. *It is good for us all to live here.*
Why
America Needs Wrestlers?
One former wrestler's unselfish courageous determination can best
illustrate the value in answering this question. Former New Jersey
all-state wrestler, Jeremy Glick with two fellow passengers aboard
Flight 93 (Tom Burnett and Todd Beamer) heeded the famous 9/11
call
"Lets Roll", and proceeded to "wrestle" on
behalf of us all, against
terrorism. Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reily said it best;
"At a time
like this, sports are trivial. But what the best athletes can
do -- keep
their composure amid chaos, form a plan when all seems lost, and
find
the guts to carry it out -- may be why the Capitol isn't a charcoal
pit". Sports may be trivial but the lessons and courage learned
through
them can become the foundation to monumental achievements.

QUOTES FROM THE OLYMPIC COACH FINALISTS
MEN*S FREESTYLE
Tom Brands of Iowa City, Iowa
*I think it is about the athletes, getting them what they need. We have to do a great job of getting them to feel good about themselves and about their preparation.*
Bruce Burnett of Annapolis, Md.
*I am certainly humbled by it. I*ve been in this position before as National Coach. I know how important it is to wrestling, the organization and to the country. It is humbling, exciting and important. I want to do everything I can to help these men win gold medals. Because of my past experience, I believe I can contribute. To be named as a finalist is an honor.*
Bobby Douglas of Ames, Iowa
*I have always considered it an honor to represent America, as an athlete and a coach. The years have given me the discipline of experience. I consider this a chance of a lifetime, and if selected, I will give the same effort that the team is giving.*
Zeke Jones of Morgantown, W.Va.
*It is an honor to be nominated. I would like to thank the Committee members for having faith in me. It*s an important job to help prepare our athletes to compete in Athens. I look forward to interviewing for the position.*
Mark Manning of Lincoln, Neb.
*I*m really excited about the opportunity to be part of USA Wrestling and the Olympic coaching staff. I am always honored when I am asked to help coach a U.S. team. I*m a very patriotic guy, and love to represent the best country in the world. I look forward to helping our athletes to perform to be their best.*
MEN*S GRECO-ROMAN
Jay Antonelli of Quantico, Va.
*It is an honor to serve and coach a U.S. Olympic Team. It is an honor to be mentioned with the other coaches nominated. Any way that I can help to win medals for the United States, that is my goal.*
Joe DeMeo of Niskayuna, N.Y.
*It*s an honor to be selected as a finalist. I*m certainly flattered and pleased. I feel it is a wonderful thing to be in the company of the other applicants.*
Rich Estrella of Colorado Springs, Colo.
*I*m very pleased to be considered for the position. I have to thank my family, Home Depot, Air Force Sports and the athletes that belong to my club. We have high goals in mind. (National Coach) Steve Fraser has put together a good plan. We expect to do well in 2004 at the Olympic Games.*
Shon Lewis of Colorado Springs, Colo.
*I consider it a great honor to be recognized as a possible coach for the Olympic Team. I appreciate those who nominated me. If selected, I will do everything I can to prepare the team for the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.*
Andy Seras of Sandy Hook, Conn.
*I have been working hard towards that goal. I believe that I can help and am one of the best guys for the job.*
WOMEN*S FREESTYLE
Joe Corso of Des Moines, Iowa
*I am honored to be considered a finalist. I*ve worked well with the women, and have coached them for a long time. This is very prestigious. It*s an opportunity to help the women achieve their goals of being Olympic champions.*
Tadaaki Hatta of Elyria, Ohio
*I am excited. I*m glad I was picked as one of the six finalists. If I get the position, I want to see four Olympic gold medals for the United States. That is what I will work for.*
Chris Horpel of Stanford, Calif.
*All six coaches nominated all do a great job. I*m honored to be one of them. Our prospects to do very well at the Olympics is exceptionally high. The program keeps getting better and better. I*m glad to be a part of that program.*
Townsend Saunders of Phoenix, Ariz.
*I think it is a tremendous opportunity. We have a chance to make history. It is phenomenal that I was selected for a chance to be part of it. I*m hoping Trish and I both get on the staff and we can make it a family affair.*
Tricia Saunders of Phoenix, Ariz.
*Townsend and I are both interested in the same thing. We*d like to see this team do well at the Olympics. Townsend and I both want to be part of getting the team to the top of the podium at the Olympics. I owe a lot to those who helped me at the World Championships all those years. It*s time for me to give back. It as exciting to be in the coaching capacity as it was being an athlete. I did not know that until now.*
Troy Steiner of Madison, Wis.
*I am excited. Being around the program for the last year, I*ve gained a new perspective on the sport and working with the women. The women are into the sport as much as I was. You respect it, and it is fun helping them achieve their goals.*

Myron
Roderick President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame showing
progress after a severe stroke
As you may know Myron Roderick President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame suffered a severe stroke over a month ago. He was moved to a rehab facility in Oklahoma City a little over two weeks ago. Myron is involved in extensive rehab for three to five hours a day. Myron has made progress and has the ability to move the left side of his body which was paralyzed after the stroke. He has taken steps with support from others and seems to make advances weekly.
He will remain in the rehab facility for another five to six weeks when he will return to Stillwater and continue his rehab. Recovery prognosis is good, with lots of hard work Myron will someday be able to walk and drive unassisted. This will take many, many months, so he's in it for the long haul.
Myron really loves the cards and letters of encouragement, if you would like to send such to Myron send them to:

TICKET SUPPLY DIMINISHING FOR 2004 NCAA DIVISION I WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS;
SUITE SEATS AVAILABLE
ST. LOUIS - Oct. 30, 2003 - After setting an all-time total attendance
record when it hosted its first NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships,
St. Louis looks to raise the bar and establish a new mark in 2004.
With less than 1,000 tickets remaining, the 2004 Championships
are nearing a sellout, and St. Louis is well on its way to shattering
the tournament's total attendance record of 96,994 set at Savvis
Center in March 2000.
Fans hoping to beat the final rush on tickets can obtain an official
ticket application by calling 877-722-1604 or by downloading an
online version at www.stlouissports.org/wrestling. Tickets are
sold in three-day, six-session packages only and cost $110. Applications
will be processed in order of date received. Additional ticket
instructions and policies appear on the ticket application.
The 74th NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place March
18-20 at Savvis Center in downtown St. Louis. The University of
Missouri and the St. Louis Sports Commission serve as the tournament's
hosts. This marks the second time St. Louis and Savvis Center
will host the event. With the Championships returning to Savvis
Center in 2005, St. Louis becomes the first city to host the tournament
in back-to-back years.
HOW SUITE IT IS...
Savvis Center is offering college wrestling fans the ultimate
experience during the 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
Suites are being made available for purchase to the general public.
They accommodate up to 20 fans and offer many great amenities,
including an extensive catering menu, private restrooms, televisions,

Group Sales Department at 314-622-5454.

OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST STEVE FRASER
Steve returned from France where he coached the 2003 World Championship
Team and came to our camp in Michigan. He did a great job! He
showed
the Slam Headlock that he used en route to Olympic Gold and many
more of his favorite techniques. The Headlock is a great move
for both freestyle and Greco and is good to have in your arsenal
when the opportunity presents itself in folkstyle as well. Steve
is now back at the Olympic Training Center developing plans to
help our 2004 Olympic Team excel in Greece.
CLIFF KEEN APPAREL
During my Michigan Camp of Champs I visited the Cliff Keen Headquarters.
Owner Jim Keen told me interesting stories about how he and his
father, Cliff, started their business from scratch. This
successful family owned and operated business has provided great
service to the wrestling community for 40 years. I visited with
Jim
Keen and his sons as well as Chad Clark and Irene Renteria who
gave me the grand tour of their great new facility.
OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST JOHN SMITH
John was very well received at the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches
Association Coaches Clinic. All PA, NJ, NY, MD, and DE Coaches
should make plans to attend next winter. Look for more PA wrestlers
to experiment with John's low single series this season. Too few
wrestlers and coaches understand the finer points of this attack.
You must have effective motion and body fakes to set-up your attacks,
and you must
perfect numerous finishes. Many of my students of varying ages
and sizes are ableÝto effectively use the low single that
John made famous.

production in April of 2004. Our website is under construction,
and this
communication to you is the beginning of reaching out to the wrestling
community.
The producers of NearFall have 4 objectives with this film:
1. Produce a wrestling movie that stands the test of time, to
be included as
one of the best sports themed movies ever made.
2. Promote the sport of wrestling and elevate its standing in
the minds of
consumers worldwide.
3. Create the most comprehensive and extensive database of the
wrestling
community. Show the rest of Hollywood and corporations everywhere,
the sheer
global size and economic buying power of the wrestling community.
4. Promote the sport of wrestling to our own athletes and fan
base. Many of
our athletes can name dozens and dozens of star athletes from
other sports,
but most of our athletes would find it difficult just to name
a handful from
wrestling.
The Rocky movies led the way to a huge explosion in the popularity
of boxing.
The time has come for wrestling to create its own promotional
engine. By
bringing together the wrestling world and creating a global database,
we can open
the eyes of corporations to the economic benefits of wrestling.
The producers
of NearFall believe that this film will be the catalyst. For the
first time
since Vision Quest this will be the film that crosses over to
a much larger
audience at the box office.
We want to team up with you to promote NearFall. We have organized
a contest
involving the marketing of official NearFall merchandise. This
contest will
begin the last week in November and run through April. Not only
will your team
earn money but the prizes will range from a walk-on role in the
movie, to an
all expense paid vacation for you and your team to the Hollywood
premiere of
NearFall. Other prizes will include college scholarships.
One of the recurring themes in the film is the importance of
family and that
no one can achieve anything significant without the help of others.
Wrestling
is a tight knit community, a family if you will...The producers
of NearFall
having been wrestlers themselves understand that the success of
NearFall will
depend on the support of the wrestling family. This letter to
you is advance
notice and an appeal for that support. Please contact us if you
are interested
in promoting the sport of wrestling.
Sincerely,
Jay Vincent

Female Wrestler Wins Gold Back to Back
October 13, 2003
Posted to the web October 13, 2003
In spite of not participating in any international competition since she won a gold at the 7th All Africa Games, Nigerian female wrestler, Happiness Burutu, has clinched a back-to-back gold in the 63kg at 8th edition of the games taking place in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Happiness as saying: "I give thanks to God for doing this for me because it was not easy for me to win gold four years after I performed the same feat in South Africa.

A special Thank you to our hosts this last weekend as TDR was live from the campus of The University of Northern Iowa. Coach Brad Penrith, Coaches Mountsier, Deanda, Thompson and many wrestlers joined us for a one on one. We were also joined by a couple of the UNI Alum that had great careers at the University. I encourage you all to take a listen to this special 3 hour on the road edition of Takedown Radio.
This week on TDR- Our program has been canceled this week due to a conflict with the ISU/Texas football game. We wish both teams well.
I would also like to take this opportunity to recognize all coaches of wrestling at all levels. Our coaches perform a difficult task each and every day no matter what level they are at in the educational and athletic system. They teach and nurture the young wrestlers as needed with the smallest budgets and the least amount of attention from others in their athletic departments. You coaches are to be commended each and every day for doing what you do. Our athletes deserve to learn all that you can teach them. Some are easier than others. Most of our coaches embrace the challenge. If they didn't they would certainly not be in wrestling. Not all coaches get media attention the way the Gables and Hellicksons and Strobels of this sport do. It's only with the knowledge that you are appreciated, that what you do counts that pushes some of you on to continue with minimal support.
Parents, students, Administrators who are reading this- Please tell the wrestling coaches in your lives that they ARE doing a good job, they ARE making a difference, the job they ARE doing Matters.
For me, a word of thanks and genuine deep appreciation and admiration goes to all wrestling coaches. From all of us to each of you. Thank you! Keep it UP! We need you now more than ever before for this is Wrestling, the oldest sport know to mankind. Scott

Wrestling
legend Myron Roderick suffers stroke; Friends asked to keep him
in their thoughts and prayers
Gary Abbott/USA Wrestling
Wrestling legend Myron Roderick, who serves as President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum, suffered a severe stroke on Monday evening, September 29, and is in intensive care at Stillwater Hospital.
He is resting as well as he can at this point. He can speak and recognize people. According to Tony Linville, Executive Director of the Hall of Fame, Roderick's vital signs are good and he may be moved from the ICU unit sometime this week.
Myron's wife Joanne and his family has requested that Myron's many friends around the world keep him in their thoughts and prayers as he faces a very difficult recovery process. At this time, the family asks that no flowers be sent, and that people wait for a while before making calls to the family or the Hall of Fame concerning Myron's status. Additional information will be shared with the wrestling community as appropriate.
Roderick has one of the most distinguished careers in wrestling, with championship performances as an athlete and coach, and key leadership positions within the sport and his community. He is a legend within the wrestling community, and a revered figure in his native Oklahoma.
He was an Olympian, NCAA champion, record-setting college coach and the first Executive Director of USA Wrestling (known then as the U.S. Wrestling Federation). He continues to make a major impact on the sport as the President of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.
USA Wrestling's staff, Board of Directors, athletes, volunteers and members wish to share their love and support with Myron, Joanne, his family and his friends during this challenging time.

BOD
POD Approved for 2003-04 NCAA Wrestling Season
September 18, 2003
Research has confirmed
the BOD POD is:
EASY & COMFORTABLE
Requires less technical expertise and is much more convenient
than hydrostatic weighing.
FAST
A complete analysis in less than 5 minutes.
SAFE & ACCURATE
Does not overestimate body fat in most individuals, which could
lead to unhealthy minimal wrestling weights.
Learn
more...
The NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports has approved the use of Air Displacement Plethysmography using the BOD POD for assessing the body composition of male collegiate wrestlers.
This determination was based on extensive independent research on college wrestlers. Study results conclude the BOD POD (air displacement) provides results similar to those of hydrostatic weighing.
Request a copy of the complete study published in Medicine
and Science in Sports and Exercise
Many researchers already view air displacement as the gold standard measurement method. This newest research, titled Evaluation of Air Displacement for Assessing Body Composition of Collegiate Wrestlers, serves to reiterate the BOD POD is a valid and reliable method for assessing body composition in lean athletes.

FALL CAMP TOUR http://kenchertow.com/camps/fall/index.html
We will conduct Camp of Champs in over a dozen states this fall. Wrestlers travel from throughout the nation to attend our camps. Make plans to attend ASAP.
This past December I produced a short film titled "UnderDOG".
I would like to thank you for forwarding my requests for wrestlers and equipment. With your help and the help of the wrestling community the project turned out great!
The project features many local wrestlers including the Northview high wrestling team. Some of our sponsors include: USA Wrestling, Wrestling One, Pin2Win.com, Asics to name a few.
We are currenlty looking to schedule a special screening with the talent and crew and another screening for the wrestling community. I will keep you posted.
I am happy to announce that our film was recenlty admitted into AFI FEST. AFI Fest is one of the largest and most respected film festivals in the United States and draws over 40,000 people throughout the festival.
With this in mind we begin our marketing campaign and I would like to contact well know wrestlers such as Dan Gable, Rulon Gardner, Joe Gonzales, and Tito Ortiz etc to send a free copy and eventually obtain a quote from them to use on our posters and outgoing media. If you have any ideas or contacts that might assist me I would appreciate any help.
Please consider that I have work on commercials for Nike, Adidas and other films that require wrestling scenes in an attempt to represent our sport by providing the film industy with authentic wrestlers and choreography. In total I have introduced over 50 actors to "Hollywood" some have made some "real" money doing what they love to do - WRESTLE. (one of my former wrestlers booked a commercial - worked one day and made $20,000 in residual income) I myself was introduced to hollywood because of wrestling (In the Disney feature film "Spooner" I played Tim Braden - My wrestling coach at Rio Hondo college, Ken Bos, sent me on an audition)
Please refer interested parties to my personal web page. Thank you for you consideration.

Presale of 2002 World Team Trials Highlight Video
Dear Wrestling Friend,
I hope many of you are getting ready to go to the Worlds. If you can't be there, please follow the coverage on TheMat.com.
The Freestyle teams broke camp last Saturday and went home for a couple of days. Now the Men's Freestyle team is in New York training at the NYAC, putting the finishing touches on what we hope will be a Championship performance. The Women's team leaves for NYC on Sunday and will taper for their tournament as well.
This year's Worlds promises to be a spectacular event through the leadership of the Manhattan Amateur Wrestling Association and the NYC2012 Committee. It is expected that close to 80 countries will be represented. Many USAW employees have put in long hours trying to get all the communication work done.
One of the toughest problems has been getting visas for some members of delegations. It appears this afternoon that much of the Iranian delegation has been granted passage. So, we are hopeful that a little more work will bring the whole squad to New York.
Since you are on my email list I wanted to give you a special offer. We will be releasing a new highlight video from the 2002 World Team Trials after I return from the World Championships. Because you are part of the wrestling community that I've worked with I'm offering you the opportunity to get the new "Something's Got to Give" highlight tape for just $19.95--with no shipping and handling added.
When we begin advertising the video on TheMat.com it will sell for $24.95 plus $5 shipping and handling. If you would like to take advantage of this special offer, you must fax or mail in your "Presale" order form to USA Wrestling before September 20th. Please see the attached flier for more details.
This tape is a lot of fun. I really think you'll love it.
Make the commitment. Join USA Wrestling!
