2001 NCAA Division II 165 lb. Tyler Byant of South Dakota State University and Lantz Schwabenbauer of Gannon, battle for third place honors. Byant appeared to have the position to score, however, upon delivery to the mat Byant injured his shoulder. Schwabenbauer later took the lead and the win 6-2.
