CAMP DESIGN

I have personally designed the Olympian Camp System so that you will learn and retain as much as possible. While college sponsored camps are often thrown together, Olympian Camp is very organized. Through a carefully planned sequence of instruction, review sessions and unique drills, you will learn the techniques necessary to become a champion.
I will be present at ALL sessions, unlike many camp coordinators, and will be available throughout the day, everyday, for personalized instruction.
I have made a commitment to coordinating the finest camp system in the world.
There are a variety of camps to choose from, so you can pick the camp best suited to meet your individual needs:

1. Super Gold Medal Training Camp A special opportunity for the experienced wrestler who has college scholarship aspirations and wants to make a big commitment this summer.

2. Gold Medal Training Camp This is the premiere camp in the country! It is designed for the serious wrestler who is determined to become a State Champion.

3. Olympian Technique Camp You will learn the techniques, tactics and drills that are necessary to be successful at all levels of competition.

4. Team Technique, Training & Competition Camp Coaches, please call (814) 466-3466 for more details on this special camp.

5. Girls Olympian Camp Take advantage of this unique opportunity to train with other dedicated women in a very serious learning environment.

6. Olympian Technique & Training "Specialty" Camps For the serious intermediate or advanced wrestler who wants to focus on specific areas.

7. Junior Olympian Camp This is for the 6-11 year old or under wrestler who wants to improve and excel, while having fun on and off the mats. Junior Olympians will have extra counselors and be very well supervised.

8. Kids Training Camp An intensive Junior Olympian Camp. This is our Gold Medal Camp for the serious little guy.

The wrestlers in all of these camps will be divided into small groups based on skill level and experience, so that you will receive the personalized instruction necessary to meet your individual needs.

SYSTEMATIC APPROACH

I have been an avid student of the sport since I was fourteen years old and made a commitment to becoming a State Champion. Since then I have trained year-round, experimenting with different techniques while drilling, wrestling and coaching young wrestlers. While coaching at Penn State and Ohio State, I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest coaches and wrestlers in the nation. I have gone to training camps at the Olympic Training Center regularly since 1984. At these camps I trained with some of the best wrestlers in the world, expanding and polishing my repertoire daily. I also regularly analyze videotape of State, NCAA and Olympic Championships. I know and understand what it takes to become a Champion and am anxious to share it with you.
I have carefully designed the entire technique curriculum, so that everything you learn will be presented in an organized, systematic fashion. You will learn a system of wrestling, the system that has made me and many other top wrestlers successful.
You will leave my camp with a thorough understanding of all the techniques you are taught. You will learn not only how to execute them, but also when to hit them and why they work. You will repetition drill all the techniques during extensive, closely-supervised drill sessions. These daily drill sessions will help you perfect the techniques, remember them and hit them instinctively in the heat of battle.

TAKEDOWNS You will learn an array of set-up actions that will allow you to constantly pressure your opponent while always maintaining good position. The foundation of your takedown system will be the inside step series, while you will also learn the knee spin, knee bounce and low ankle mechanics of penetration, so that you can attack your opponent in a variety of fashions from all angles. Our staff will also detail a variety of leg attack finishes, so you can quickly and effectively finish your leg attacks from your feet and when you get stuck on your knees.
If your opponent's legs are back, you must work his head. You will learn the snap, shuck, head pull and cross snap so you can wear your opponent down, open up your leg attacks &/or get his head down. You will learn a unique front headlock, cement, whizzer & cobra series, as well as essential spin behind techniques, the back hand and short drag. Many other counterattacks will be taught including the chestlock, bundled arms, spladle and elevator series.
The slide by and throw by series will be carefully detailed, so you can score on the opponent who hangs on your collar. These unique techniques have won many big matches for me, my campers and college students. I know you will be able to successfully add them to your repertoire. Advanced takedown techniques including throws, underhook attacks, two-on-one combinations and low single attacks will also be covered. Olympian campers will get to choose two of these areas to get advanced instruction, while Gold Medal campers will receive expert tutelage in all four areas.
My goal is for you to leave camp with a clear understanding of the takedowns you must master to excel and the work ethic it will require to perfect them.
I expect you to go home and develop into a takedown machine, as so many past campers have.

TECHNIQUE CURRICULUM

Although takedowns are the most important and difficult area of wrestling to master, mat wrestling will NOT be neglected as it is at many other camps.

TOP POSITION Emphasis from the top position will be on tilts, cradles and legs, the most effective ways to turn a good opponent. You will learn how to use these techniques in combination with each other and all your fundamental pinning combinations. Many basic breakdowns will be drilled as well as unique breakdowns to turns including the near and far claw, spiral 1/2, side headlock, inside ankle pretzel and foot hook. You will learn to control hips, breakdown and turn your toughest opponents. All nearfall techniques will be taught in extra small groups because the finer points are so important. Special sessions are offered for wrestlers particularly interested in advanced instruction on parallel legs, cradles, turks and freestyle turns.

BOTTOM POSITION The stand-up will be the primary focus from the bottom position because it is the safest, quickest and most effective means of scoring from underneath. You will learn the finer points that will help you explode to your feet with back pressure for a quick escape. Chain wrestling from the bottom position will be emphasized, so that if your stand-up is stopped, you can immediately execute a variety of second moves depending on your opponent's pressure. You will get to choose which reversal techniques you want expert instruction on and receive this instruction in extra small groups to learn the finer points. Special sessions are offered for wrestlers particularly interested in advanced instruction on granbys, head spins and counters to legs.
